TREATMENT
The Problem with Standard Headache Management
Most chronic headache patients have experienced some version of the same cycle: a new medication is tried, it provides partial or temporary relief, side effects accumulate, the headache returns or evolves, and the process repeats.
This is not because there are no good treatments for headaches. It’s because medication management, without a clear diagnostic framework, tends to address the symptom of the moment rather than the underlying pattern.
At the National Headache Institute, treatment planning begins with your diagnosis — and is adjusted continuously based on how you respond.
What Your Treatment Plan Includes
Every treatment plan at the National Headache Institute is built around three things: your specific diagnosis, your history, and your goals.
Personalised medication strategy
We review your full medication history — including what has worked, what hasn’t, what you’re currently taking, and what may be contributing to rebound or overuse. We prescribe with precision: the right medication, at the right dose, for the right purpose — whether preventive, acute, or both.
Preventive treatment
For patients with frequent or disabling headaches, a preventive strategy is often essential. This may include pharmacological options, Botox therapy (where appropriate), and other clinical interventions aimed at reducing baseline headache frequency.
Acute treatment
We ensure you have an effective and appropriate acute plan — what to take when a headache begins, and how to use it in a way that is effective without contributing to medication overuse.
Ongoing monitoring and adjustment
Headache disorders are not static. Your plan is reviewed and refined at each visit based on your progress, your response to treatment, and any changes in your symptom pattern. We do not prescribe and disappear. We stay with you.
Who Is this For?
- Patients currently on headache medication who are not achieving adequate control
- Patients experiencing rebound or medication overuse headache
- Patients who have never had a structured, diagnosis-driven treatment plan
- Patients who want a long-term strategy — not just a prescription for the next episode
What We Don't Do
We believe in being direct about this.
We are not a practice that prescribes broadly or adds medication layers without clear clinical rationale. We do not manage headaches indefinitely without investigating their cause. And we do not offer treatments that are not clinically appropriate for a specialist headache practice.
Our scope is focused because our patients deserve a practice that knows exactly what it’s doing.
You deserve a treatment plan that makes sense — and actually works.
